— Ivankiv, Kyiv region
Ivankiv Historical and Local History Museum
The museum burned in the invasion’s opening days. It held twenty-five paintings by Maria Prymachenko, the self-taught folk artist whose work Picasso admired. The museum’s guard and his wife, helped by neighbors, went into the burning building and carried fourteen of them out. The building was lost; the rescued paintings have since traveled to exhibitions around the world.
